Italy offers safe and friendly environment for students. According to reports, Italy is one of the safest and most peaceful countries in world. The country also has low crime rates and extreme penalties for criminals. Of course, if you are in Foreign Country, it's advisable to avoid dangerous areas and practice common safety measures wherever you are. However, some say that larger cities like Rome have higher crime rates, especially for petty theft, pickpocketing, and scams. 

Intakes in Italy

Study intakes in Italy are Autumn/Winter and spring/summer. Most programs only begin in Autumn (The Major Intake"). It’s advisable for most of the colleges to start their applications well in advance at the beginning of intake. Autumn intake Starts in mid-September or early October and ends in January. Students start their degree in September or October. We strongly advise international students to apply for winter intake as availability of course & Universities are high. Spring/summer intake starts in mid-January or early February and ends in July

The currency in Italy is Euro (€). Indian students must know about the prevailing exchange rates and banking options in Italy to manage finance effortlessly during study period.

Tuition Fee in Italy

Studying in Italy is considerably cheaper than in other countries. On average, tuition fees at public Italian universities range from €500 to €4,000 per year. They can vary depending on the course you enroll in and, most importantly, based on your family income. You will need to submit an application to have your household income assessed in order for the university to determine your fee level. This means your fees could end up being considerably cheaper. Fees can be higher at private universities or at business schools. 

 

Cost of Living in Italy

The monthly cost of living in Italy as an international student can vary depending on many factors, for example the city, how you want to live, how much you want to eat out and so on. As a principle, you’ll need somewhere between €900 and €1,300 a month to cover rent, food, transportation, entertainment etc. 

 

Part-Time Options and Earnings While Studying

International non-EU students can work for a maximum of 20 hours a week - or 1,040 hours a year - but cannot start a business. Students can work and support themselves with a minimum wage of €7 an hour in Italy. 

Scholarships Options

There are some scholarship opportunities for international students that want to study at one of the Universities. Some are offered by the government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministero degli Affari Esteri). Also, each individual university will have its own scholarship programmes, sometimes in partnership with the government or the region. Usually, international students can apply to the same scholarship programmes available for Italian students, unless otherwise specified. It’s worth inquiring early at your university what schemes are available, and what you need to do to qualify - look out for student services called Ufficio Borse di Studio or Diritto allo Studio. Scholarship applications can get complicated, and by giving yourself plenty of time to prepare the needed documents you will have a buffer if any unforeseen challenges arise.

Which Exams to be taken

Evidence of English Language proficiency (if applicable) but some Universities accept applications with MOI (Medium of Instruction) certificate from bachelor college. For Bachelor degree IELTS is recommended. GRE is not required to study in Italy. However, if you have a score, then it always improves their admission chances. Submit standardized tests score e.g. GMAT, GRE (if applicable). Only some MBA programs may need the GMAT. Submit this score report too. 

 

Study Duration of Bachelor and Master in Italy

An undergraduate course in Italy is usually for a period of three to four years depending on the type and institution. Some programs, particularly in the fields of medicine and architecture etc. can go beyond a period of five to six years as well.

Master's degree programs are typically between one and two years long. Research-based Master's programs may take more time depending on the research project and thesis requirements. This could also change depending on the academic calendar and whether it is a co-op program. Please confirm these specifics with the schools in question

 

Student Visa Duration for Indians

Student visas are generally associated with the program duration (which is a relief for Indian students in Italy). This can go from shorter courses (up 3 to 4 years for undergraduate and up to 2-years programs or master's program) all the way to PhD levels.

 

Post-Study Work Permit for Indians

The Indian Students who manage to successfully complete relevant degrees in Italy are now eligible to stay back in Italy after they study for 12 months. The post-study work permit can be applied for after the applicant gets a full-time job or even an internship opportunity. Officially 'permesso di Lavoro' - a work permit/employment permit would be needed. 

Settlement Options in Italy

It is possible for international students to get a job in Italy after graduating with a master's degree from an Italian university, assuming they are proficient in the Italian language. Italy's labor regulations allow international students who have graduated from an Italian university to apply for work permits and seek employment in the country after completing their studies.
